Went wine tasting last weekend, that was fun.
heading out to catalina tomorrow for a work function. whee.

so this weekend i threw myself a birthday party.
2 kegs, 1 new castle, and 1 miller high life.
my buddy tuck dj'd and bbq'd for me (thanks again lil buddy)
borrowed rock band from my other friend danny.
and people were playing drinking games in the kitchen area.
bought carne asada, pollo asada, chicken breasts (boneless), sirloin steak, tri tip, hamburgers, hot dogs, hot links.
some potato and macaroni salad and some veggie burgers for the vegetarians.
all in all i'd say about 35 people showed up.
was a blast and i'm glad everyone made it home safe. we finished off the new castle keg and about half of the high life. |

have you ever walked up to your car and reached in your pocket (or purse for the ladies) and realized... where the f' are my keys? yeah i did that on tuesday night... i was working late and got to my car and realized they werent there... i had let my co-worker use them to open a box in the storage room earlier that day. ended up getting a ride home and to work the next morning but luckily he had my keys! which is especially important since i'm driving to oregon on friday whee! taking the whole week off. i'm very excited. can't wait to see my family. and not to show any favoritism. i can't wait to see my nephew! he's growing up so fast. :( i'm afraid i'm going to miss out on his life.

and when i get back from vacation, i am moving into a new house.. and when i say new, i mean paint is barely dried. we're renting from my roommate's uncle. but its never been lived in and its awesome. get my own room again which will def. be nice. privacy! and i can use a real alarm clock instead of my phone on vibrate. its weird, cause that will wake me up, but i've actually been punched while asleep and didn't even wake up. oh well. good times to ensue! i've also been thinking of getting another 22" monitor for my new dell desktop. 2 monitors is always better than one right?
and last tuesday (the 10th) was my birthday. so this past sat (14th) i went with a few friends to a bar around here called off campus and just had a few drinks. my roommates took me out to dinner on my birthday and i've had a few friends take me to dinner as well. one friend even made a whole day out of it and we went to LA and watched license to wed @ the arc light and saw the cars from transformers there! optimus prime and bumble bee! i'll post pics of that later. and then we went to a brazilian steak house called foga de chao which was realllllllllly tasty and then went to the world famous laugh factory in hollywood. that was a really fun day. minus the parking ticket i got outside the laugh factory. but all in all a great time!
work is going alright, just trying to finish everything before i take off for a week and we're supposed to be moving to a different area of the floor either tomorrow or monday so i need to pack my shit. and my 2nd job is going ok, just waiting for some parts to come in so i can do some work there. i also have some side work i am going to be taking care of when i get back from vacation as well as my own personal side work (web development stuff). so i'm a busy guy for the next few weeks. but it will all be worth it. and! we get paid 3 times in august.. love those extra checks!

When the power goes out @ my 2nd job... yes i have a ups hooked up to the important stuff but still if i dont know that the power is off i can't shut things down. but anyways. power went out. one of the servers decided to not play so nicely on the way back up. ran fsck and things seem to be fine on that server now. now the only problem is my link (T1) to at&t. its down and doesn't want to come back up. i called the at&t noc and they will be dispatching someone tomorrow morning. oh the joy. i know its how i wanted to spend my sunday... so much for a relaxing weekend!
atleast i got to see George Carlin this weekend. he was funny. damn he is old now. didn't realize he was 69 years old now. still funny though. thats for damn sure. hope everyone else is doing well |

how just the way something is configured can make a huge difference. at work we use Full Disk Encryption. The prodcuct we use is called Safeboot. and before i started getting heavily involved with the product and only supporting it i used to hate it. but now that i have full control over the configuration of it, i'm pretty impressed. the person who configured it before, didn't do it very well and a synchronization of the machine to the server could take anywhere from 5-25 minutes. not a very good number especially when its using approx 30-50% of your CPU. so the way i configured it, with security also in mind, i've cut the synch time down from the 5-25 minutes to approx 8-45 seconds. thats a big jump in performance if u ask me! of course none of the users really notice the difference but they also dont complain as much. which is always a plus. things synch when they need to and have the correct permissions.
i've also found a few other tools such as an Active Directory connector, to synch the server with your current active directory infrastructure. so that you're not adding a thousand people by hand. pretty nifty utility.
the only thing that sucks is if anything goes wrong with windows or whatnot i haven't figured out how to make a bartPE disk to allow logon to safeboot and decrypt the drive so i can boot into a utility CD. but thats my fault for not setting enough time aside to figure that out. so for now what we have to do is decrypt the drive (approx 5-8 hrs depending on the size of the drive) which can be a real pain.
anyways, will update more about this later (if anyone really even cares) |

so because i work with idiots... i can no longer access any of the instant messenger clients. some people are retarded here and click on random links sent via im's
even if they haven't talked to the person in a long time... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr this makes me unhappy :(
im'ing people when i was bored was a very relaxing past time here at work.. now i'll have to figure out other ways to chat with people.. |

On Saturday, i rear ended someone and screwed up the front end of my car.. smooth eh? luckily there was little damage to the other guy's truck. he had a tow hitch which is what killed my front end. but it still sucks. i miss my car already.. :( |

why do people feel the need to kiss certain people's asses? we're all people... treat everyone the same.. my boss was saying "we don't want them to get inconvienced" well we dont want anyone to have to deal with issues. not just certain people... i am not going to kiss someone's ass because they cry a lot... and now we have dedicated someone on our team to specifically work on the VP's issues... great, let the babies cry even more now... this corporate bullshit pisses me off... what makes them so special that they deserve special treatment? |

so its 4th of july... and what have i done all day? well, i cleaned the kitchen/dining area (with help from luis and erik w/ the dishes) cleaned the dishes. did laundry and folded clothes (slacked off on the socks....) having some issues with my new email server, i got imap to work but now i'm having issues with the smtp portion. its not sending. it has something to do with it trying to update the relay table in mysql but its not updating. which is pissing me off... so yes i worked over the weekend... as i always do. its hot... i'm sweating :( not cool.. oh well. showed lupac a bar down in HB called fred's. he really enjoyed it. watched superman again. was the same movie i saw the first time... working a lot lately. loving this 2 days off w/ pay... got a lot accomplished.. wasn't exactly the most fun but i enjoyed it. hope all is well out there in LJ Land....

Figured out the Problem with sending... now i just need to research a known dns issue, patch it and install webmail and i'll be set! |

you always said u wouldn't end up like someone and you end up like them? well i always said i wouldn't end up like my grandma with piles of crap all over the floor of my room with only a walkway to my bed... well guess what.. that was me.... so this weekend i decided to clean my room (its still not done). but i threw away a lot of junk and crap i dont need and haven't used for over 2 years...but its good to see progress finally... i've been working on a webpage for work.. i really wish i could show you guys, but i can't and its pretty cool too! oh well.. what i really need to do is finish it up.. its up and functional, but not fully finished to what i want it to be. i'm gearing up to head up to sacramento tomorrow night. my buddy ryan is getting married. i have to pick up my suit tonight after work then head to my 2nd job. but i'm pretty excited about getting some time off and going to the wedding. also in good news, i get my raise and bonus on thursday.. w00t! def. need it hehe. thats all for now. hope everyone is doing well. oh and pictures will be coming soon to an update near you... |

how much more work you do when you're in a work like environment wearing headphones and just pounding away on the keyboard... instead of being at home around comfort and laziness and distractions..
getting lots of work done on my most recent project now that i'm stuck here at work. hopefully will get about 30% more done.. which would put me at around 80-85% complete. just put the finishing touches on it tomorrow :) looking like i'm going to be needing to do some minor adjustments to the database structure because of some programming snafus hehe that or i just need to brush up on my sql or stop being lazy. hehe
btw, 401k's are nice to have.. i was just checking mine and i've already made some $$ its my money but still its nice to see something grow that i can't touch hahah |
